Is It Finally The End Of Lunar Caravans? How Could It Affect Me?

Lunar caravans have been manufacturing caravans for over 50 years and have provided us with some of the most beautiful caravans in the market. There has been a lot of speculation with what is happening with Lunar caravans. Are they still operating? Are they not?

Well, the speculation started when Lunar went into administration back in 2019. It was later bought out of administration the same year by a South African engineering group, that quoted “business as usual” at the Preston manufacturer. It relaunched its delayed 2020 season caravans that year.

Lunar managed to retain all bar 2 of its old dealer network and had the intentions to fulfill all of its 2020 orders but later was hit, like all of us, with the dilemma of Covid-19 and its repercussions.

With lockdown restrictions upon us it put a halt to all production for all UK manufacturers, including Lunar. This led to difficulties internally within the Preston based manufacturer and speculation of its future loomed again.

There has been very little news if any from Lunar to its customers and its dealer network. It certainly looks like the end of the Preston manufacturer with the website intermittently going down and outdated, no sign of its 2020 production, and staff members now leaving the company.

There is no official statement but it looks likely that Lunars reign is finally coming to an end.

How Will It Affect Me? Warranty / Parts

So you own a Lunar caravan but not sure what this means for you. We understand that many Lunar owners maybe worried about the situation. Especially if you own a new Lunar. You have every reason to worry about your manufacturer’s warranty and whether you can obtain Lunar parts. However, we are here to ease your mind and advise you on next steps.

Firstly, the manufacturer’s warranty. There has been no official statement but we’ve been informed that the manufacturers warranty is no longer available from previous Lunar dealers and some Lunar customers. If you’re interested retaining some sort of warranty on your new Lunar caravan, we have seen many people purchase an MB&G warranty in the event of an incident happening in the near future. I know this is an additional expense but this is an option for you if you’d like that added peace of mind to you’re covered.

For most Lunar owners now it is likely you have purchased a used Lunar caravan so manufacturer’s warranty wouldn’t be an issue anyway. Although, even if it is a used Lunar you have bought and it has been bought from a caravan dealership, you should have at least a 12 month warranty as standard.

Next is getting hold of parts. Fortunately, most parts in Lunar caravans are used in other UK manufacturers and can easily get replacements for these. As for the more specific spares and repairs of Lunar, we have an extensive supply chain working closely to source the identical part if not a close alternative. If you require repair work on your Lunar caravan then fill in our enquiry form with images and information of the damage on our caravan repairs page. We will provide you with a free no-obligation quote.

Still Worried and Would Rather Get Rid Of Your Lunar Caravan ?

If you’re still worried that you might come across a situation where you don’t think you’ll be able to get it repaired and would rather just get rid of your caravan early, then we also buy Lunar caravans.

A lot of dealerships have stopped stocking used Lunar caravans due to not being able to service the customer if anything goes wrong. This has led to some dealerships rejecting them as part exchanges as well.

With us however, we can offer a 12 month warranty on all Lunar caravans, with the added benefit of being able to source parts for most Lunar repairs, in the event of anything that is at fault.

If you want to know how much your Lunar caravan is worth and want to get rid of it, then why not fill in your details on our caravan valuation page and we provide you with your caravan’s valuation.

A Brief Look Back At Some Of Lunar

Lunar began with co-founders Brian Talbot and Ken Wilcock, named their caravan manufacturing business Lunar following inspiration from the 1969 mission to land on the moon.

From the flagship Clubman to the legendary little Ariva, through the years the Lunar ethos remained constant: build lightweight high quality caravans with luxurious interiors.

Lunar caravans has brought much joy to lives of many caravanners and it will be sad to see Lunar close its doors on some of these beautiful interiors.
