Keeping Your Vehicle Road Safe and Legal

Book Your Motorhome MOT for £60

Owning a motorhome or campervan opens up a world of freedom—giving you the chance to travel, discover new places, and make the most of the open road. But like any vehicle, it needs to stay safe, reliable, and roadworthy. That’s why a Motorhome MOT test is so important.

At Grantham’s, we carry out MOT testing for motorhomes and campervans of every size, ensuring your vehicle meets strict DVSA standards and stays fully legal for the road.

We also make maintenance simple by offering a complete one-stop service. From MOTs to habitation checks and full mechanical servicing, our AWS-approved technicians can take care of everything in one convenient visit.

Why Motorhome MOT Testing Is Essential?

If your motorhome is over three years old, it is a legal requirement to have an annual MOT test. This isn’t just about ticking a box—it’s about protecting you, your passengers, and other road users. An MOT ensures that vital components such as brakes, steering, suspension, and lights are functioning correctly.

For larger vehicles like motorhomes, the MOT process can be more complex than standard car. That’s why it’s important to use a specialist garage that understands the unique requirements of motorhomes and campervans. Our team has the experience and equipment to handle vehicles of different sizes, from compact campervans to large motorhomes.

    FAQs On Motorhome MOT

    Do motorhomes need an MOT?

Yes. Just like cars, motorhomes require an MOT once they are over three years old. This ensures the vehicle is safe, roadworthy, and meets DVSA legal standards.

How often does my motorhome need an MOT?

Your motorhome needs an MOT test every 12 months once it reaches three years old. Without a valid MOT, you cannot legally drive your motorhome on public roads.

What class MOT does a motorhome need?

Some motorhomes and campervans fall into Class 4 MOT (the same as cars). However, larger motorhomes with a gross weight between 3,000kg and 3,500kg may require a Class 7 MOT.

How long does a motorhome MOT take?

On average, a motorhome MOT takes around 45–60 minutes, depending on the size and condition of the vehicle. If any repairs are needed, it may take longer.

What is checked during a motorhome MOT?

A motorhome MOT covers all the key safety and roadworthiness areas, including brakes, steering, tyres, suspension, exhaust emissions, seatbelts, mirrors, lights, and the structural integrity of the vehicle.

Does the MOT cover the living area of my motorhome?

No. The MOT only covers the driving and road safety elements of the vehicle. To check the living area—including electrics, gas, and water systems—you’ll need a motorhome habitation service.

Can I book a service and MOT together?

Yes. At Grantham’s, you can book your MOT, habitation service, and full mechanical service in one visit, saving you time and hassle.

What happens if my motorhome fails its MOT?

If your motorhome fails, we’ll provide a clear breakdown of the issues and offer repair solutions. Once fixed, we can carry out a free retest within the DVSA guidelines.

How much does a motorhome MOT cost?

The price of an MOT is a standard rate of £60.

    Can you MOT large motorhomes?

Yes. Our facilities are equipped with large workshop bays and ramps designed to accommodate motorhomes of all sizes, including long wheelbase and heavy models.
